Purging with a Payoff

I always want to be one of those people that constantly cleans out the material possessions I own (or starts to for the first time), but my lack of motivation when it comes to household tasks always interferes. I have a feeling I’m not the only one who feels this way about going through the piles of stuff in my pad.

I saw a tweet yesterday that made so much sense to the idea light bulb actually crashed down on my head. This is what it read:

Genius! Am I aware that I am just tricking myself into going through my junk? Yes, but it must be done. If I’m just doing something like this to do it, it most likely won’t be done. I need a purpose, a goal, and/or a reward for doing the things I loathe so much, even though I know I’ll feel better afterwards. There is no need to go crazy, just maybe do something special for ourselves if we accomplish the purging goals that we lay out. Here are a few things I would do with Garage Sale money:

1. Adopt a cat
2. Put the money in my Savings Account
3. Purchase a nice pair of black flats
4. Make that monthly credit card payment a little larger
5. Get a tattoo

Here’s what I would do with the extra space in my apartment:

1. Have a permanent workout corner
2. Set up a play area for Biggie Smalls and the new cat
3. Have more people over to my spacious abode!

What would you do with some unexpected cash and more living space?
